GraceReign Homeschool

My daughter is too smart for her own good so I’m not sure preschooling is the right word.  She has already learned so much just from every day life, educational programs, and yes, dare I say it, cartoons.

I’m considering a structured curriculum for her but it would seem she’s ready for Kindergarten, if not even first grade.  I’m not sure I can keep up with her.  This morning she sat down and drew her own clock, numbers and all, and she understands the concept of the clock.  She pointed at the 12 and explained to me that when the long hand and short hand get to the 12, it’s lunch time!  Could have knocked me over with a feather!

I have Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons by Siegfried Englemann but she won’t sit still long enough to do a lesson yet.  However, she’s been bringing me books and begging me to teach her how to read.  Luckily, the books she bringing me are early readers that show the picture and the word together.  We’ll get it eventually.

  1. When my son was in Kindergarten, he wouldn’t sit still for reading lesson. We went out to the front yard and while he dug a mud hole and ran around the tree, he read from flash cards. I made a game of it. He had to yell out the word on the flash card as he ran around the tree. He could run around, unless he read the card as he passed by. LOL

My daughter taught herself to read and it sounds like your daughter is doing the same. 🙂
